Comedy series dubbed ‘The Office meets Scrubs’ is streaming now
The NBC show boasts a 90% Rotten Tomatoes rating
An NBC comedy that has been dubbed 'The Office meets Scrubs' is currently available to stream.
St. Denis Medical debuted back in November 2024, but it may have flown under viewers' radars. Created by Justin Spitzer, known for producing The Office, Scrubs and Superstore, the dramedy is streaming now on Peacock.
It follows dedicated nurse Alex and her team at St. Denis Medical Center in Oregon. Although the medical staff is made up of comical personalities, the poignant plot revolves around their efforts to make the most of their underfunded department.
Leading the cast, Allison Tolman stars as the supervising nurse, alongside Emmy-nominated actress Wendi McLendon-Covey.
The ensemble also features Oscar nominee Josh Lawson (Mortal Kombat), Superstore star Kaliko Kauahi and David Alan Grier, who recently starred in Candy Cane Lane.
With just 18 episodes out, the dramedy has scored a rare 90 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating. Critics on the movie-rating platform rave about the sitcom, stating: "The prognosis is promising for St. Denis Medical, a tart and well-cast addition to the tried-and-true mockumentary sitcom genre."
Casual viewers were left equally impressed when the series premiered, awarding it a 73 percent score.
One fan hailed it as "exactly what comedy shows needed," before explaining: "A breath of fresh air in what has been a stagnant windless genre since we lost shows like The Office and Parks and Rec. As someone with family members in the health care industry this hits home in so many special ways."
Elsewhere, other viewers have been quick to draw comparisons between St. Denis Medical and iconic shows.
"This show kind of feels like if The Office and Scrubs had a baby," raved a fan.
The same viewer continued: "I’m a huge fan of both those shows so I found this one to be delightful. I like the documentary style of it and all the references that are relevant to current times." Audiences on Reddit agree, with one claiming that the comedy "feels like Scrubs crossed with The Office."
Over on IMDb, yet another fan voiced their praises, writing: "Soooo funny! I really appreciate that they don't focus on the medicine.
"As a nurse, I find this pretty accurate so far! I literally have the exact same stethoscope as one of the characters! I really hope this show continues!"
