Methode dataMate's High Performance Copper Transceiver G.fast Passes K.21 Testing

The G.fast SFP Module Has Been Certified to Withstand Overvoltage and Overcurrent Surges

/EINPresswire.com/ -- CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 08/24/16 -- dataMate, a business unit of Methode Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: MEI), a global developer of custom engineered and application specific products and solutions, today announced their G.fast SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) module has passed Recommendation ITU-T K.21 testing -- a test validating the transceiver's resistibility to overvoltage and overcurrent resulting from a lightning strike. K.21 certification includes rigorous testing for various overvoltage and overcurrent scenarios and is mandatory for all telecommunications equipment attached to or installed within a customer premise.

"K.21 certification is key for the broadband service carrier community and their ability to eliminate risk associated with voltage or current surges induced by lightning strikes on or near the line plant connected to the equipment," said Al Chiappetta, general manager of dataMateMethode developed their G.fast SFP transceiver module to help network carriers easily upgrade their installed base of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access connections to ITU-T G.9700 and G.9701 compliant G.fast links capable of running up to 1Gb/s over conventional telephony twisted pair cable.

"Certification also provides the added assurance to customers that the module will seamlessly self-recover in the event of a strike and continue to operate at full bandwidth capacity when needed. Methode's solution is now the industry's most compact K.21 compliant G.fast SFP module on the market," said Chiappetta. "We believe that ours is the most elegant, robust and best engineered G.fast SFP module available today".

G.fast represents 30 times faster data speed for the residence or enterprise customers, and it can be rolled out, scaled and upgraded quickly in part by simply exchanging the SFP module.
